Cocoa Beach Walgreens named friendliest pharmacy in U.S. by SingleCare

COCOA BEACH – A team of two pharmacists and four technicians at Walgreens located at 4150 N. Atlantic Ave. in Cocoa Beach has been named the 2021 “Friendliest Pharmacy Team” in the country by SingleCare, a prescription savings service.

The recognition was made as part of its third annual “Best of the best Pharmacy Awards,” which per a release recognizes “outstanding pharmacists in the U.S. that go above and beyond to serve their communities.”

The team includes Anh Phan (Pharm.D, Rph), Ronna Appleby (Rph), Danielle Bailey-Calvert, Kholoud Rasheed, Rosaliee Pesci, and Quynhnhi Tran.

According to Meghan Fox, spokesperson for SingleCare, in an e-mail to Hometown News, the company partners with 35,000 pharmacies and grocers nationwide, including CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Costo, and Albertsons. From that, she says SingleCare received “thousands of nominations for this year’s Best of the Best Awards.”

“SingleCare’s Editorial Review Board – which is comprised of the SingleCare editorial team and former award winners – reviews customer nominations and votes on their top contenders in each category. Those who received the top votes became our finalists,” said Ms. Fox. “After reaching out to the Cocoa Beach Walgreens team and hearing their stories – combined with the amazing nomination stories – we determined them the Friendliest Pharmacy Team in the country. In both the nominations and their interviews, a common thread was how they went above and beyond to make their customers feel like family.”

Ms. Fox added that SingleCare personnel began to reach out to finalists in early August and that the winners were informed that they had won on Oct. 4.

Dr. Phan indicated that he was very excited to receive news of the award.

“I was surprised, and I feel proud of my team at the same time,” said Dr. Phan, who serves as pharmacy manager.

Dr. Phan said he’s worked at the Cocoa Beach Walgreens for about three-and-a-half years, added that he’s tried to “create a family environment” among the staff where they don’t feel stress during the day.

That undoubtedly makes it easier for the staff to treat its customers so well.

“It’s essential for us to show our confident attitude while we’re greeting customers, especially during the pandemic,” Dr. Phan said.

Dr. Phan also noted that the staff welcomes customers like they are family as well.

“So I coach my staff to imagine your family member’s standing in front of you needing service whether or not you need testing for COVID, vaccine, flu shot, or the medication that they’re taking on a day-to-day basis, so we are trying to help them out as a family member. So when a family member stops by, we show them our positive attitude, we greet them.

Dr. Phan also says his goal is to “treat everybody the same” and emphasize how important patient safety is to the team.

“Our goal is patient safety is our top priority,” Dr. Phan added. “Everything has to be safety-first. When the patient approaches us, we make sure that we clear all the questions or the doubt that they have and send them home with the medication or whatever they need.”
