The Studios of Cocoa Beach introduces its January Artist of the Month, Tiffany Allen. Tiffany draws realistic images of animals, birds, fish and nature using graphite and charcoal pencil.
“I enjoy the control and precision of drawing with pencil," Ms. Allen said. "The monochrome palette highlights the patterns and textures in the subjects I draw.” For each piece, she begins by lightly sketching the “bones” of the piece on heavy weight 100% cotton Bristol vellum.
A fine art print of Tiffany’s “Sea Turtle in Blue” will be the prize in the Studios’ monthly giveaway. To enter this free drawing, visit the Studios any day in January. Tiffany’s work can be viewed during the Studios’ regular hours.
“The paper choice is the foundation of my art and is critical to the final image,” Ms. Allen said.
Using different combinations of graphite and charcoal pencils, she then layers and blends until the desired depth, texture and tone are achieved.
“Most of my drawings require as many as a dozen pencils of varying hardness and can take as long as 40 hours to complete. But each is absolutely a labor of love,” Ms. Allen said.
Located at 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach, the Studios is open Monday and Tuesday 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
